Robert Icke & Lyndsey Turner
The Directing Zoom ~ Student ~ May 2020 - Present
First rule of the Directing Zoom is: you do not talk about the Directing Zoom.
Just kidding! Kinda.
Since May, 2020, I have spent each Monday from 2pm - 4pm logged onto Zoom in what we call, "The Directing Zoom". This is a free class that UK directors Robert Icke and Lyndsey Turner host where they go over all things directing. This class has been a blessing.
We are entering week 46 of class which adds up to roughly 92 hours in this class. We've covered topics including pre-production work, how to talk to designers, how to talk to actors, new works, adapting, artistic directors, the Chekhov technique, directing Shakespeare, directing the Greeks, and so much more.
Guest artists are often brought in to talk to us in the Zoom. Some of my favorites include Rachel Chavkin, Joseph Haj, Ivo Van Hove, Rebecca Frecknall, Katie Mitchell, and Dominic Cooke. Sadly, the class is ending at the end of May; however, I have 2.5 notebooks full of information that will never leave my side.
